Work experience

I had the immense pleasure to be working as a language teacher last week. It was a great change to my regular student life, although it did add to my already ginormous workload. However, I got so much out of it, I am glad I did end up going for it.

Same place, different role

So I was working as a language teacher at an exchange student camp. The exchange students arrive to the camp for a week, before continuing to their host-families. The idea is to get them accustomed to the time-difference, new culture, and new language.

Now, I’d been at the camp many times before, but as a tutor. My role then was to aid the language teacher during the lessons, as well as follow the exchange students to their other activities and excursions, leading them in outdoor activities and overall acting as their older sibling and guide for the week.

Year three has begun

As I probably have stated before, I am a teacher student. I am now about a month into year three. and it’s come time to think about my bachelor’s thesis. To become a teacher in Finland, you need to study up to a master’s degree, so I still have a long way to go. But it is great to have come this far.

What I am particularly excited about this year is my minor. I decided to minor in music (why, I have no idea) but somehow I am really enthusiastic about it. Along with many other stuff, we get to have instrument lessons, much like when I studied at a music college some years back. Now I get to learn piano and guitar, as well as get to have some singing lessons as well. It’s really great and keeps me going with the rest of the stuff, that mostly has something to do with learning about different types of research, and actually doing research.

What I am really grateful for, are my friends at the university. Though my class barely has any lectures all together anymore, there is still a certain sense of togetherness and we have a lot of support for each other whenever anyone needs it.

Getting ready for a new semester

End of summer has been busy. Last summer events have piled up and there’s a lot to do to prep for a new semester. This is going to be a busy one as we’re each concentrating on our own bachelor’s thesis’. I’ll be back in my university town soon – hopefully things will settle down by then.

New friends

You know those weird coincidences that life throws at you sometimes? The people you end up meeting because of, well, coincidence? And how in the end it totally makes sense?

I met someone today at a cafe. We had never met before and were pretty much set up to meet by our parents. No, it wasn’t a blind date. Just two girls meeting up because our parents had met a few weeks back and thought we’d get along well. I don’t know what I was expecting, not really. I just thought I’d go there and see what would happen. I did expect for us to talk for a while, but I didn’t know we’d end up talking for three hours straight! Continue reading “New friends”
